I'm trying to decide on a tire. I would have these on a seperate set of rims.
What does everyone think of the Kuhmo V700 Ecsta? Or the VictoRacer? What is the difference? Plus, are these considered R compound?
Any other brands out there I should be looking at?

I have Ecsta 712s and they have a 280 tread wear rating and stick very well, dry and wet, but not as well as the KDW, I think, based on Tire Rack tests....but they are much cheaper.
Victoracers have a 50 as in FIFTY wear rating and come with only 4 or 5/32nd tread to begin with. I watched a guy wear out a bunch of the life of his brand new Victoracers in a single six-run autocross...and he drives a lightweight Miata. I wonder how many events you could get in a front-heavy Contour!! They are good for 3-4 seconds on a 1 minute course, though!

Kumho V700s on Integra Type Rs, Corvettes, etc. typically last 100+ runs or more and are normally discarded because they heat cycle out. They work best with less than 4/32 of tread and come stock with 6/32 of tread. I know its seems wrong, but having them shaved to 4/32 will make them last longer (you'll get more heat cycles).

I run 225/50/16 Victoracers on my 98 SVT. I have about 25 runs on them and they are just starting to get really sticky. I think that the fronts are now worn down to about 4/32s. The rears still have the little rubber fingers on them. They are only worn a little on their edges. If you want to make autocrossing real fun, just get race tires for the front. Then you will get oversteer going into lift throttle corners.

Do you have any problems with the 225/50/16's rubbing? Also, are they on stock wheels?

My rear tires (225/50/16) wore holes through the liner at the first autocross that I used them. They don't rub on any of the suspension. I have them mounted on Enkei RS5 wheels. They are stock size.

I was never able to find any aftermarket wheels in the stock size. All the guys offered 16x7s, none, and I mean not one, made a 16x6.5 except Ford :P I went with 99SVT rims as a result. Cost more, but the size was legal.

I think that they actually are 16x7. The offset of the wheels is 40mm. I don't know if that is stock.
