Heya Everyone,

As a newbie that still has another year on his warranty, I'm wondering which Mods I can do to my car (without having to remove them before going into the shop), and still have no warranty problems. This includes everything from engine mods to fog lamps...

I imagine that most newbies out there (especially those with the 200 models) are wondering the same thing. Thanks for your help and info...

Cheers,
Tom laugh

a mod will not violate or void your warranty unless the dealer can prove that the mod actually caused the problem. we are protected by law for this.

So I can put the KKM cold air intake on and still get service on my car? Can I find that statement somewhere to have with me when I go to the dealer? I only have 8000 miles lefton my warranty and want to get it all checked out at least two more times before it expires. But I want to start doing mods now.

It's funny that you ask because everytime I put my SVT in the shop for maintenance, the service guy always states that my K & N will cause harm to my engine. What's even more funnier than that is the K & N filters are sold in the Ford Catalogs! Go figure....

Ok, here is the deal.

According to the Magnussen-Moss act (see www.sema.org ) your warranty cannot be denied simply because of the use of aftermarket parts on your car. The mod must be proved to have been the cause of the failure that they are denying your warranty on, nor does it allow for the entire warranty to be voided, just the parts affected by the mod that cuased the failure.

Unfortunately, in the real world, most of us don't have the time, money, or legal counsel to make that stick every time a dealer wants to be a jerk about it. The simple fact of the matter is, you are best off finding a dealer that is knowledgable and very up-front about modified vehicles if you plan on being able to count on warranty service. Honestly, I have seen some pretty jacked up warranty denials, that really should not have happened, simply because the dealer was being a jerk.

It's all about balance.

Tom,

you should be OK with doing most anything but forced induction (SC/Turbo) or Nitrous.
Bolt ons being air-intakes, exhaust, suspension should not violate your warranty nor should you have a problem with the Dealerships.
I had mine in for a broken shift tower, nothing was said to me about my KKM intake.
