Just joining the forums from dallas, Tx. I have been wanting to get rid of my stock antenna on my se and replace it with the VW roof mount antenna. I want to go with the roof mount and don't like the ford version that is on the front of the car. My question is does anyone know how hard it is to fill the hole from the factory antenna or of a company that would be willing to do it? You can find the antenna complete kit at: www.vwparts.com for $50.

Looked into it, as i have the VW antenna on mine. To get it properly fixed, you need it "shaved" which will run you about $300-$400. I got my antenna for $47 total from the local VW dealership, but that was just the mast. I have an SE antenna with the antenna unscrewed right now. What's the part number on that assembly?

the part # 1H0998503C. Does just the antenna mast hook up to the antenna cable in the car. I was going to get the whole kit because I wasn't shure I could use the ford cable. I was planning on finding something at Home Depot that I could plug the whole with that I could paint to match. Just until I could get it fixed. What exactly do you mean by "shaved" and is it the fender you are talking about?
Do you have any pics of the antenna?

Shaved means that there going to weld the hole and fill it with Bondo. then sand it down and finally have it painted to match your car color, kinda costly mod but will make the car look smoother. I'm doing that and having the attenta in the car, plus I'm shaving the door handles and trunk key hole

PAA,
Let me be one of the first DFW CEGers to welcome you. Be sure and check out the DFW board. There's lots of soap opera stuff, but some good names to know.
Fixing the aerial hole in the fender sounds pretty tough. You might consider fabricating a cap/plug for it painted body color. No worse than the access flaps on the SVT skirts.
If you want to put the VW aerial towards the back of the roof, be very careful with placement. MANY years ago a guy I knew in the BMW club poked his eye out with a rear-roof mount aerial. Details are fuzzy.

Just save your $ and buy a $5 black universal antenna from radio shack...that's what I did...fits perfect and is only about a foot long. I haven't had any problem getting radio stations to come in clear either...

When I get the chance to spend money, When my wife allows me, then I do it.
Does anyone know if the antennas have universal plugins, because I would rather just by the vw mast for $25 then by the mast and wires.
I'm going to check with my brother-in-law this weekend, he might know a guy that can plug the hole at a good price.
