From the results of the SZ2001 AutoX, it appears that the SE may have a better suspension for AutoX than the SVT. Am I seriously misguided here? I am looking to replace the springs struts and swaybars in my Mystique and am trying to figure out if I want to use stock SE or SVT components. Thanks in advance.

Torque for SE is 162 ft/lbs and 165 for my 98 SVT. Also SE peak torque comes earlier in rev range. Torque is more important than horsepower for coming out of corners in autocrossing because you are never going to have a really long straight after the corner. And the torque/weight ratio is better for the SE than the heavier SVT. Had a former national contender explain this to be comparing his torquier 8 valve GTI to a 16 valve GTI. Even though the two cars were in different classes, the 8 valve could run nearly as fast because of better torque.
The 15 inch wheels may be a factor as well. Lower CG with 50 series tires vs the 16 inch wheels on the SVT.
But driver experience was probably the most important factor. I also noted that what many considered to be stock would not have been under true SCCA stock rules. Shifters are not stock I don't think.

Hey Popeye; I put together a list of all the cars that would normally have run G-stock, to see where we'd all wind up. Big suprise, the first of the SVT's came in 8th! 2nd and 3rd were both "regular" 'tours! I should have drove the wife's 97GL, it has always felt better on the auto-x course. In fact, I'd bet it pulls harder than my 98SE. Must be those 14" michelins!!

From what I've seen (not done) a pure stock SVT do in auto-X, I think driver is the bigger factor in determining which is better.
I'll take the SVT tire's better overall grip in stating the SVT is slightly better overall on the Auto-X, but it's VERY close.
