Does anyone here have experience with the Toyo Proxes RA-1 (DOT-legal race tire) on an autox or track car? Would especially like to hear any comparisons to the Yokohama A032 if you've tried both.

I'm trying to decide on a new set of streetable track 'tars for my RX-7 and everyone on that forum seems to have been struck speechless.

TIA,
Ned M

I have the RA1s on my stock 16" wheels which I use for the autoX and road racing. Turn in and grip is amazing and I think it would be a awesome street tires as long as it doesn't rain. I sometimes leave them on during the work week so I can flog the car for fun around on and off ramps, so far they have lasted pretty long (I'm comparing these to the GY Eagle F1/180 tread ware). I haven't tried the Yokos, so I'm not sure how it would fare. But from what I hear the Kumhos and the Toyos seem to last longer than others, but the Toyos cost more and are better suited for endurance racing...

Thanks, David. My only frame of reference is the older-style BFG R-1. If you don't mind, how much did you pay for the RA-1s and is there someplace you can mail order them from?

My dad had a GSL-SE until one day one of the apex seals went bad, his wife (my step mom) didn't like the car so he sold it cheap... (I was bummed)

Anyhoo, I bought them from a guy that had a Talon that he used to race in. Until one day he wrecked it and I picked them up cheap at $300 with lotsa tread left... ( had something like 4/32 left, and no flat spots)

The same sized Yokohama A032R 205/55 go for $139 at tirerack, so I think I lucked out! Sorry I don't know of any mail order place that has em...

I've run both the A032 and the RA1 on my racing 240Z. They are both about equal in performance and longevity but the A032 is extremely noisy. At 60 mph it sounds like an offroad tire. At 100 mph I can hear them over the wind and engine noise.
