O.K., I'm interested but I'm in Canada. So I'm assuming that is $45. U.S. right? And when will the group buy end? I don't have a problem sending a U.S. money order but I will need details on where to send. Or should I wait till you close the goup buy?
Lastly, can you mix and match colours? Say a blue tie down with red sleave nuts?

'96 Contour SE

High flow cat.
Dual VIBRANT Mufflers (exhaust resonator removed)
Machined headers

Yeah, I'm thinking about that new turbo kit being offered on here but I'm still in the planning stages of knocking over Fort Knox.
Still I'm running about 215HP. Now if I could do something about the bottem end...

Yup, we can mix and match whatever colors you want. You want a silver and a blue nut with a red tie-down, that's fine. smile I'm going to make the arrangements to have this group-buy start on wednesday and end that sunday, but I can 'wait' for one or two money orders (at most). Once the group buy is closed, we'll get the product shipped out. smile

EDIT: And yes, funds are in USD. smile

The battery tie down changed somewhere along the way on the Contours. Probably with the 98 switch. The earlier tie downs kinda bent down at the edge of the battery about an inch or so, hugging the side of the battery. I dunno if this would effect the way this tie down fits (chances are it won't work with the early style, the bolt doesn't look long enough), but it's worth checking out before spending the $$$. You can see what I'm talking about in this picture.

Yeah, the stock cougar battery tie-down is the same way. That's why the sleeve nuts were custom made (they are about a half inch long and will reach). Originally we had planned to use the stock nuts, but realized that the bolts wouldn't reach, so the sleeve nuts were designed. smile

Here, this time I'm including a picture of my stock Cougar engine bay so you can see what I'm talking about. smile This is pre-Mirkofication, so I circled the battery tie-down bolt in red. You can see that my stock battery tie-down was the same as the one lunchbox posted, and the sleeve nut from Mirko's tie-down will reach it.

The only thing that requires any modification is the plastic clip holding the ATX tranny breather tube thingy. What I did on mine (if you have an ATX) is drill the hole in the clip all the way through so I could feed it down lower on the bolt.

Ahh. Ok. I think the switch in the Contours was in 99 (as I just spent about an hour looking for different engine pay pics!). It looks like, in 99 the piece was changed to be just straight across (anyone wanna verify, in case I looked at the pics wrong?). I guess that sleeve-nut can be tightened all the way down the bolt so it'll sit flush.

The only reason I was curious is because I talked to Warren Kurtz a while ago about making some tie downs and he mentioned that there were two types used on the Contour and he didn't think they were compatible. I guess he didn't have the sleeve-nut idea.

I'm very tentative to buy one. Gotta pay my bills at the beginning of this week, then I'll see how much money I have sitting around.

Yeah, as long as the both types of Contour use the same battery, then it should fit both. But it was designed on the 01 Cougar (which happens to have the same battery tray as many of the Contours) hence why I brought the gauging of GB interest here too. smile

EDIT: I just looked at the picture for the battery hold-down in the 1997 Contour off FordPartsOnline.com and it looks to be the exact same as the Cougar and the 99+ Contour..

My tie-down is a circular type. Not flat. Maybe that's why I'm so fast. laugh

Looks like someone stole my idea? smile
I've sold quite a few of these to the Brit Mondeo guys, engraved to your requirements. Why advertise someone elses company?

Actually, we had no idea any of them existed; we were offering them to the Contour folks because we already were making them for the Cougar and they happen to be interchangeable. smile

I'm sure each product has its benefits, the Mirko Racing ones are anodized in your choice of red, blue or silver, and come with nuts that are color matched (or a color of your choice) which would probably make for a better show-piece. These are not Contour/Mondeo specific, but rather Cougar/Contour/Mondeo specific. wink

In any case, I think you can hardly call a battery-strap a 'Stolen idea', since they've been around for quite some time. wink
