Yup, the bearings are quite a bit thicker. We also have them shrouded in a custom pressed mounting cup that fits inside the top hats.
I know cost is the issue for everyone, we're not trying to make money here, just cover our costs and make it work.
We tore down and inspected them again today. The bearings are fine thank you very much but they do get contaminated with a lot of dirt up there. With the waterproof grease they were still very well lubricated but I wasn't 100% happy... This might not be an issue for everybody so we're gonna research an optional boot that will act as a dust shield between the GC aluminium upper spring seat and the black Ford top hat. I drive a lot of mileage, my car sees a lot of dirt, salt and grime so I would get that for a couple bucks more. The autocrossers / boulevard cruisers might not need them... Well, going shopping again this week.
Stay tuned!

*bump* 99SVT1766: The infamous "Ground Controls" are a set of coilover conversion springs and sleeves that can be fitted over any strut with little modification. Check out the pics of my car in my signature, most Contours that you see that low are using them. They come with a flimsy strut top bearing that everybody seems to be breaking. We're looking at offering an upgraded unit that would cure that. You don't need the bearing kit if you're not running the Ground Control kit!
