I know that we did a group buy a few months ago for an OBD-II scanner software, but if anyone was still interested in buying this product, Taurus Club is running a current group buy. The price is the same as what CEG had negotiated ($73 for 20 buys - 40% off regular price).

The following is from www.tauruscarclub.com and includes instructions on how to register for the group buy:

From tauruscarclub.com:
The TCCA has received discounts for group orders from Alex Peper at www.obd-2.com on his OBD-II diagnostic scan tools. For your Taurus and almost every car OBD-II started on vehicles produced in the year of 1996. However OBD-II was introduced on some vehicles as early as 1994. The list price will be discounted 20% off for 10 orders, and 40% off on 20 orders. The product is plenty more than a mere code scanner, for full information on the products visit the website and you can even download the software already. To receive your discount and be included in the group buy send an e-mail to obd-2@tauruscarclub.com with your full name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail, as well as which product you wish to buy (Ford, 2-car combo, or 3-car combo).

To read their current forum thread, go to http://www.tauruscarclub.com/UBB/Forum4/HTML/000530.html

There are links to the mfg website, as well as a downloadable demo. This looks like a pretty good tool, especially if you can hook up with a laptop (486, Win3.1 compatible, as well as 9x/ME). You can log all sensor data as you drive around, and then review the data off line or in real time.

I already registered and am #5. They want to hold out for 20 to get the maximum discount. Never have to pay a dealer to read a code again, plus much much more! I'm sure some CEGers can attest to how good this product is.

No need to register on Taurus board. Just send email to obd-2@tauruscarclub.com. Check the instructions on the Taurus Club homepage or in the section I quoted in my original post.

Very good product if your a do it yourself type of person. Even if your not, you can still walk up to your service attendant and say here are the codes I pulled and you just saved anywhere from 50 to 100 bucks of your purchase price for the code puller. And thats just one trip. For the person that's always playing around with mods on their car it's a must. And it's not just a code puller either.
If your handy with software, there are alot of neat things you can do with it.

Chris: Thanks for the info on the code scanner. However I don't see how it is going to save me money??? The last time I was at a Dealership I had told them the tranny mount was broken please repair. The guy didn't know what I was talking about. I pulled it out of the holder and said "This isn't good." Basically, they still charged me 40 bucks to find out what the problem was??? I just doubt some dealership is going to take what you say for granted. I am not trying to be a Plick just saying. laugh

Looks like I'm gonna miss out on this one.  I'm waiting for my George Bush Jr. tax rebate before I can afford to get this.  Alas, the last two digits of my Socialist inSecurity number put me right near the end ? probably late September or early November for me.  I see that the Taurus group is already nearly up to their twenty, so I doubt that they'll want to wait around a few months to wait for me.

Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS , Zetec engine, ATX.  No mods. (Well, OK, one mod.  Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios.  I liked the Tempo's radio better.  That counts as a mod, doesn't it?  I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare.  I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars.  Does this count as a mod?  If so, I guess I have two mods.  Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)

Mr. Blaylock,

If your waiting on a George Bush Jr. Tax Rebate for other things, you shouldn't hold your breath. You might miss out on a lot of other IMPORTANT things.

Have you heard of anyone actually getting a check yet ??

TCCA is currently at 12 buyers or so. SOP is to get to 20, and then hold it open for 24 more hours before closing the buy. Then Alex Pepper has to get $$$ from all in the buy before shipping (I think). This is buy #2, so maybe they'll do a third (if you have to miss this one), but I see that most of buy #2 is not TCCA so maybe not.

FYI, first week for GB Jr. rebates is next week (wk of 7/23), and I'm in that week (SS# ends 0x - IRS sent me a notice to keep my eyes peeled for a check from my favorite rich uncle). Following week for 1x, and so on for 10 weeks total.
