I installed the ford provided DRL relay PN F5RZ-14N089-E in my 98 SVT - works great - copst approx $25. Just a plug into the power/fuse box by the battery AFTER removing a brass shunt.

Lee,
For those of us who are new here, what is the DRL? Never heard that term before.

Thanks in advance

Why would you want those. They don,t come as standard equipment, at least here in CT.

Safety comes first. It's amazing how much of a difference DRL's have made up here in Canada. Way easier to tell if that car down the highway is comming at you when you want to pass. Also eliminates the idiots who don't turn on their lights in rain, snow, and even the midnight missiles who forget. Better to avoid the crash than try to survive it I say.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago also. 1998 2.0 - easy install and works just fine. I decided that for a early morning commuter car a little extra help being seen would be a good thing.

That's what the driving light mod is for... Dusk and dawn...

If one can't see another car during broad daylight.. One shouldn't be driving... wink

I did the DRL mod on my old tour. My GP has them also, as well as automatic lamp control. It's idiotproof, I never have to touch the headlamp switch! laugh

A little extra safety never hurt anyone plus it got me a little discount on my insurance.

I find DRL's quite helpful for gaining the straggler in the left lane's attention as you approach them from behind at high speeds! wink

My only gripe with the Contour DRL's was the fact it didn't have a parking brake kill feature.

Hey, PackRat is totally right. If you put in DRL most insurance companies will give you a nice discount on the rates. I hooked up my aftermarket fog lights to the DRL connection and my insurance agent saw them and gave me alittle break on the rates.
