Well my car is really trying to compete with Puff I believe, cause as of now my engine has a ticking sound, believed to be a valve tapping from a broken lifter in my front side. So now once again I get to tear down the engine, as if I didnt have enough fun last time, what like 3 months ago, but anyways, is there anything I should think about while its stripped this far again. Also I dont know how long it will be till I do become a troll, at this rate, not long at all. frown

What kind of clicking? My car makes a high pitched click/chirp type of noise every few minutes. It comes from the passenger side of the engine bay, and cannot be heard from inside the car. The car runs fine though, and my local shop said they though it was coming from near the firewall but couldn't identify its source and guessed at a loud relay or something. They didn't think it was anything to worry about.

But a few months earlier, I had taken it to the dealer, and they told me the exhaust shield (in the back of the car) was making the noise and was travelling up to the engine bay  . Eventually, they said it was the front manifold expanding and contracting, so they replaced that and my y-pipe. That took them just over a week to figure out and they put 20 miles on my car. Well, the problem is still there. I gave up, the car is running fine as far as I can tell, and the dealer obviously doesn't know whats going on. I don't know if this is the same thing you've got, but I figured I'd share smile .

well it has just arouse, and numerous opinions feel its a valve tap, maybe a collapsed rocker, but its something in there. Today I took apart my engine, tore off the valve cover and upon eye inspection, there seems to be no problems, my grandfather who has been working on cars since he was lil looked said that there is some wearing on the cams, but there is nothing out of ordinary there, like no tiny grooves or anything, as far as running, she seems to be running fine, its just if you go slowly up through the rpm's when you hit about 2250 it will start the tapping sound. If you punch it, theres nothing, and now I just pulled home, and apparently my seal on the valve cover wasnt perfect cause we have smoke and some oil leakage, which means after it cools tonight, I will take it apart again and reassemble it.

Side Note: when I do become a troll which is most likely to be next spring/summer, I will prolly be getting a BMW Z3 prolly like a 1997.

iceman-

STOP!!!

sounds verymuch like what happened to my car- you need to pull your oil filter and cut it carefully and check inside- also if you can pull your oil pan and inspect your bottom end-

I lost at least one bearing in the bottom end and now my motor is a complete waste- I need a new one- so do yourslef a favor- I know it sounds like lifters or even valve problems- its NOT!
its the faimed Tour spun bearing usually a rod one but could also be a crank-
trust me on this one- you may be saving yourself about $6000 worth of damage- pull the pan and oil filter and check for metal shavings or chips- mine had an amazing amout in the oil filter- I havnt pulled the pan because frankly I dont want to break down and cry when I do

good luck and hopefully you wont need a new motor because right now 2.5 stuff especially SVT stuff is so expensive youd have a heart attack when I told you how much replacement stuff is!

Take it from me....LOOK INTO IT. I had one motor loose all bearings and the 2nd one spun one bearing. Get it fixed before you are rebuilding or swapping motors.
