And yes I did use the search function first.

I'd like to order a set of front SS lines before my next open track event.

PS-Anyone using PF pads on their SVT's?

The Aeroquip ones BAT sells aren't DOT approved to my knowledge, but IIRC the brand that Tire Rack carries advertises DOT approval on all their products. That said, I love my Aeroqiup lines.

The reason they are not DOT approved is that the ends are replacable. DOT requires that the ends be permamentlyattached. I'm not sure why they are so strict about that, after all the stainless steel braided hoses still must be accached to the calipers and the rigid steel brake lines in the same manner.

according to the Earl's catalog, "The DOT does not "approve" any products. It calls out specs and test procedures that the components must meet. The manufacturers then self-certify that they are in compliance. The DOT may randomly require that components be tested by an independent certified laboratory selected by DOT."

"The Earl's "hyperfirm" brake hoses meet all DOT, TUV and JWA standards & specs for flexible brake hoses".

"Each individual hose assembly is pressure tested at 4000 psi after manufacture."

The catalog lists front hoses for Contours 95-96. Earl's sells only thru dealers, I would call Bill at Chicago Connection 773-229-0655. He's set a few of us up with Ford Racing plug wires, and everyone's been happy with the prices and service.

As an Earl's dealer, I can tell you that Ibub is correct. I use non DOT hoses on many of my kits, but some are DOT if I've had them custom made to my specs. The ends of the hoses must be Stainless Steel and not serviceable as are many AN hoses. The function of the hose is not compromised in any way if it's approved or not assuming you are buying a reputable part from a shop. I made the ONLY SS hose kit for the SHO for years and did them all by hand! I'll bet I sold nearly 200 sets and maybe had one or two that had a problem and were replaced. In sort; don't sweat it. Just make sure it fits well.

The ones SP Motorsports sell are DOT approved. The only difference between DOT and NON-DOT are plastic gromets at the connections that keep the end from snapping off. This was on the Speed Vision on one of there performance shows. They clearly stated this was the only difference!

I did the old research a while back, and I found the DOT approval requires both non-removable ends (even though they may be of lesser quality, I guess they feel they have less chance of loosening or being badly installed) and a plastic sleeve on the lower end of the hoses. Sleeve is there to prevent sand from entering the stainless webbing, and chaffing the inner line. That one makes more sense to me than the crimped ends.
