I was just wondering if they were the same part for the 278mm rotors, with the exclusion of the brake pad wear sensor.

The Calipers are the same, the pads are the same, and E1 rotors and caliper mounting brackets are the same.

The difference is on regular Contours. They too have the same calipers and pads, but the mounting brackets and rotors are smaller.

The E0 calipers, pads, rotors, and brackets are different from any of the others, and are slightly better due to larger pad area contacting the rotors.

Some Cougars have pads that are configured the same, but have wear sensors built into them. If you use a pad without the sensor, the upper consol warning light will not come on when the pads wear thin.

Big Jim: I think you're wrong about that. Our Cougar customers who've added the early style pads (non sensor equipped) claim that without the sensor the light is triggered ALL the time. Need a jumper to rectify.

As I understand it, the sensor built into the pad completes a ground circuit when the pad wears into the sensor. I could be wrong though. I have not studied it that close.

I'll clarify, since I have a cougar.
the brake wear sensor is a thin metal loop in the pad, when it wears down to this loop it wears the loop off, and thus cutting the circuit and causing the brake sensor to illuminate.
