My 98 Se is ready for new brakes both front and rear. I am not real knowledgable on brakes so I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on what to get. From my reading I know that I don't need Drilled / Slotted rotors, but I do need rotors so I could use some suggestions. I would like pads that provide good performance even when wet, since it seems to always be raining here of late, but I'd also like pads that aren't as dusty as the OEM ones.

Any advice??

I like my big brake kit 'C'... much better stopping power than the stockers.

Your question is very general. Or maybe it's just the weekend?

Anyway, what are your intentions?

Bigger rotors look good, but are only necessary if you have a heat management problem. Have you ever experienced fade? Or do you just want the extra confidence that larger brakes can give you?

If you ever plan to autocross, realize that bigger brakes might knock you out of a competitive class.

Good pads (so I've heard): Mintex A/F, Performance Friction Carbon Metallic Street, EBC Greenstuff, Etc.

Good Rotors (so I've heard): Raybestos, EBC.

I have EBC Greenstuff brake pads along with the EBC rotors on the front of my car that I got from Tire Rack. They are a great improvement over stock. I am putting them on the rear as soon as my slotted rotors arrive from Precision Brakes. With this setup I am still using the stock size rotors and calipers but have much better brakes. I am keeping my tires and wheels stock as I like the stock 7 spoke wheels. IHO slotted rotors are a better choice for improved braking. Precision Brakes has great prices on slotted only and drilled & slotted rotors.

From what I have read the EBC pads and rotors sound like a good choice. I see TireRack carries the front rotors, but apparently from other messages on this group EBC doesn't make Rear rotors? What should I get then for the rears? This is not an SVT vehicle, its a 98.5 SE Sport. My wife is pretty good at warping the Rotors.

FWIW,

BAT lists rear EBC Turbo Grooved Rotors.

The EBC plain-face rotors and slotted rears (I think) are not marketed in the US, except through dealers who bring stuff over from the UK, such as BAT and Mr. Haines.

If you ask me this week, I'll tell you that when I replace my rotors, I'll be getting the plain EBC rotors from BAT, in their EBC/Mintex package. This should be an effective and high-quality combo for daily driving and occasional autocross.

I also have an SE - 1998. My front rotors were warped at 25000 miles. Just upgraded to late model SVT 278mm rotors with stock SE calipers. Great improvement in braking.

I used two svt caliper mounting brackets and two 278 mm SVT rotors and about 1 hour labor.

So far this has proved to be an effective yet inexpensive upgrade for the weak SE front brakes.

Hope this is helpful.

I have noticed NO difference in brake dust with my Mintex A/F pads compared to stock. frown

I'm happy with their performance along with full face rotors from BAT (I bought the brake special - 4 rotors and 4 sets of pads) along with SS lines on all 4 wheels. Of course, the brakes I was replacing were thrashed, so I better have noticed an improvement!
