Theres a video of it as well. Wonder what kind of car it was, it was making everyone else on the track look stupid The actual rotor looked fine, I think it was the hub part that failed. nasty problem though. could have ended up a lot worse.

Drilled rotors are a BAD idea! Its an old mod that has no reason to exist today. You are just asking for trouble with drilled rotors.

OMG!! Watch the video and tell me if you can recognise the track!!!
It's the EXACT SAME race track that is on Grand Torismo(spelling) 2 game!! I can't for the life of me remember what the course is called now but it's the same one in the game! That's so freaky.
(Or I play GT2 WAY too much!....hahahaha, I'll find out the course name in GT2 at lunch, if no one knows it already?!?!?!)

Laguna Seca. Shame on you for 6 weeks for not knowing that. Come on, the corkscrew? Anyhow, makes me glad I got one-piece big and heavy 13" non slotted non drilled rotor. Possibly a cheap two-piece rotor, if such a thing exists. Todd, any problems like this w/ any of your kits, the two-piece rotors coming apart? EDIT: looking at the pics, is it a two-piece rotor or was it a one-piece that just separated? John John

It's a 2-piece, and the x-drilling was not the cause of the failure. The hub of the actual rotor was what cracked, not the friction surface!

Oh yeah, Take a look at those pictures again. Your right the rotor did not crack on the braking surface, However they did crack at those nice holes they drilled in the hub of the rotor to lighten it. By the way its not even a cross drilled rotor its merely dimpled and thats probably why theres no cracks on the braking surface. The rotor is only 2 piece because it broke into 2 pieces. The only places there are cracks are where holes have been drilled all the way through the metal.

So let's set this straight: - This is a one piece rotor - The cross-drilling / dimples don't have the hairline cracks I was expecting to see.. good sign - The rotor failed at the hat, I've never seen drilling there.. ever.. is that to lighten it up?? It seems to me that the place where the hat "mates" to the actual rotor is where most of the torsional load would be applied.. the worst place to drill hole IMO. I'm still glad mine are only slotted. I see way to many cross-drilled rotors with hairline cracks all around the holes. Porsche and Mercedes OEM that on their cars but the hole are cast in. Even BAER drills the holes after the rotors have been machined..

The car??? Of course, it's a 300ZX Baby!!! (I'm a former owner) I love those things. Not sure of year, but I think it's at least a 93 or higher. They made that body style from '90 until they stopped bringing them over here in '96.
Mushu's pretty cool too!
