I installed some new rotors and pads this weekend (the ones in the subject line laugh ).

I only have about 10-12 miles on them so far, but I can already tell they are going to stop me much better that the stock pads and rotors could. My pedal effort is already lower than the stock set-up was (around town, taking it easy, slowly bedding-in the new rotors and pads).

I bought 'em at Tirerack.com. The rotors were $79 each and the pads were $79 for the front set and $79 for the rear set (I'll do the rears after I buy some new rear rotors). The price on the rotors isn't too bad when you consider that decent quality rotors are $60+ on the internet (Raybestos, for example).

If anyone is interested, I'll report back my impressions after these are completely bedded-in.

[FYI, this car is my daily driver and I don't have the time or money to race(probably not the talent either). I always upgrade components on my cars as they wear out. The rotors are the stock size. I couldnt afford to upgrade to the SVT size at this time frown .]

Comments, questions?

I would have spent the extra few bucks and sent the rotors off to be cryo treated. I am making sure when I buy my next set of rotors they get cryoed!

Perhaps this may sound like a dumb question, but what does cryo treating rotors going to do?

All the cryo's I see are life a couple hundred buck to do the set of four...

More than a few bucks in my budget, which is why I won't be cryo treating.

OK, I've put over 250 miles on the new brakes so far. They work really well. The pedal effort is about half of what it was with the stock rotors and pads to achieve about the same decelleration. For daily driving, there is about 1/3 of the dust of the stock set-up.

So far, I'm pretty happy.

I have noticed one unusual thing...when the windows are down, you can hear a sound that is somewhat like the sound of a piece of cardboard in bicycle spokes. It gets a little bit louder when the brakes are applied. I guess those wide slots that EBC puts into their rotors make some noise wink .

Oh, about cryo treating...I would have done something with my new rotors, but I already spent over $300 on two sets of pads and the front rotors. I still need to buy a set of good quality rear rotors (they will probably cost $60+.) I'm not racing, so my brakes shouldn't warp (I'm usually pretty lucky with brakes and clutches lasting pretty long).

So far, I'd recommend these pads and rotors to anyone who drives in similar situations to mine.

Take care all.

Mike
