Two problems, one slightly large, and since I am unemployed, I can finally fix some annoying things. Whenever the undercarriage gets wet, the ABS light comes on, and the entire ABS system goes inactive. This is kind of fun when you are messing around on the snowy roads, but I want it to be there when I need it. I did find this:

Topic: ABS Brake Failure after Car Wash

Instead of reviving a old thread, I figured it would be better to ask it again, since my question still wasn't answered. Where is this harness SVTMAG is talking about?

Second problem. I pulled/installed the dash the other day (for dying/paint), since then the brake lights have worked every now and then. I have double checked the connections into the body behind the pass kick panel. The grounds that are located there are fine as well. The fuse is good, and the connections to the stop light switch are also connected. I still have hazards, signals, taillamps and backup lamps (probably the same clip behing the kick panel). All of the brake lights are off though, including the third brake light. It would have to be before the cancelation switch in the column, otherwise the signals would be dead too.

Any ideas or shots in the dark will be cool, otherwise I am bored and I just surf through the 'really old' threads. frown

What ABS sensor was at fault? Does it tell you if you run a code scanner on the car?

I think the wiring referred to in the earlier post was the underhood wiring looms that were replaced as part of an Owner Notification Program (similar to a recall). Have the dealer check OASIS to see if your car is involved.

Basically, the wiring insulation would tend to crumble and / or shrink leaving some of the wiring exposed next to the connector so they could short one to another. The repair under the ONP can only be performed if there is a problem present and the car still meets time and milage constraints.

It is not very likely that this is causing your ABS light problem.

It the ABS Wheel sensors are cracked, water can penetrate the sensor and cause it to either short or give a false reading, hence your ABS light.

I replaced a Right Front ABS sensor back in the summer, right after taking the car through the car wash.

As far as the Brake Lamps, there is a Central Junction Box located under the dashboard, on the driver's side, just above your left foot.
Please check the #24 fuse, or at least Fuse #F24 in the Ford Manual.
This is the fuse for the Brake Circuit.
If this fuse is blown your Signals will still work, but not the Brake Lamps.

Also Check Fuses 33 & 35.
These are between the Brake Switch and the rear lamps.

I'm not sure, but I think the wiring ONP is 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
