I just got my front and rear Mintex 1144 pads. I'm wondering if the rubber pieces are shims? Anybody know. As a mechanic I am very familiar with aluminum shims, "blue goo", anti squeel. What came with both sets of pads looks like generic shims a little larger then a business card (length & width) one side has a peel of adhesive side, what is different about these is they appear to be rubber. Just like a patch for a bike tire but larger, never worked with these before. Any input would be appreciated.

I installed 1144 pads about 2 weeks ago. I called BAT to ask what the rubber things were for. Their guy said they were for the "10% of cars that have problems with rattleing pads" (his words). I put them on my sticking them to the back of the pads and trimming off the excess. BTW - you might notice that it's impossible to stick one on the piston-side pads because the retainer clip (that slides into the piston) is in the way. So I only put them on the outside pads. I've had no problems since then. You will notice, however, that these pads are EXTREMELY dusty. I have to clean my wheels daily...

Drum, thanks for the info. I'm planning on using the stock shims if they come off the old pads. I forget if they are permanently attached or glued onto the pads. If not I'll just just the rubber stuff to fit.
Cold weekend coming and only two more racing events, I think I'm waiting till spring for the install. :p
