In a previous post it was said that you should not change your pads and rotors at the same time. Is this true, and why is this?
Is it better to change pads then rotors or rotors first?

Thanks.

New rotors should have new pads so that pads that are worn unevelny will not create uneven wear on the new rotors.

It is usually necessary to either have new rotors or freshly machined rotors with new pads. Rotors that have grooves worn in them or are otherwise misshaped will cause the new pads to wear quickly. You sometimes discover some rotor generated vibration (from midly warped rotors) that was not evident with the old pads.

If the old rotors are still above minimum thickness and the surface is relatively pristine, replacing or machining the rotors may not be essential.

One brake pad maker, Carbon Friction, recommends not maching the rotors before installing their new pads. They still say that the rotors must be pristine though. They say that their pads will bed in better on an older surface.

Are you confused yet?

No, no confusion. That is what I always thought. It was the other post that got me of track.I must have missed something in the thread, reffering to carbon pads. Big thanks Big Jim.

The info I've seen is that warping is a problem with cross-drilled. I'm probably going with EBC Turbo Grooved (from Tire Rack) with a set of Greenstuffs after the winter is over. My 2 cents.

Ya, I'm going with a set of slotted from CTA, and some Carbon pads(KVR I believe). I'm sure I would warp cross drilled. I'm hard on my brakes smile
