Just want to let you all know...
There had been a little conversation about intermittent squeaking from the front brakes while cruising (no brake pressure applied). The offending sound would go away as the brakes are applied, or as the wheel was turned slightly.
Inspection revealed that the pads had plenty of life left (1/2" to 3/8) and the disks were in great shape (amazing after 53,00mi!).
Anyways, I fixed the problem a few days ago. All I did was disassemble the front calipers/pads, cleaned up the pads, disks, etc and applied anit-squeak lube to the back side of the pads. Basically I lubricated all the surfaces in which the pad made contact with the caliper. Simple and cheap!

check your rotors. Mine were squeeking to and i got new rotors...all better.

Could be a couple of things!
1.Some brake pads come with sqealers that will squeal only when the brake is not applied. Meaning your pads are almost warn out.
2. There is a shield on the inside that could have gotten bent and is rubbing the rotor. It has a tendancy to squeal more when off the brakes.

Don't think you get it guys. My post was that I solved a problem, not that I have one.
Sound was there before. Cleaned/Applied grease. Sound not there for 1000+ miles.
Just trying to put some info out there for others who have the same problem.

flyer I've been dealing with a similar problem, though it appears to be coming from my rear rotors. Some scenario, I'll be driving along with this "roving" squeak (meaning the tone changes with the wheel speed), but on visual inspection everything appears in good order. Give the e-brake a tug and the sound goes away, let go and it comes back. A TRULY annoying thing. I'll try disassemble and clean, based on your suggestion. Thank you! Chris

At 87k mi., I had the symptoms, so they cut the rear rotors, replaced the rear pads/shims (it appeared to have maybe 500 miles left on them.
They sprayed anti-squeal on the fronts (it appears to have plenty left - I guess atleast 12g left)
Most of the squealing is gone. Although, i still hear sporadicly, what sounds more like a cricket or chirping bird squeal which appears to be coming from the front.
All this for $180, I feel like i was raped.. but i guess its the price u pay for laziness in this heatwave!
