I have a 98 contour sport and I need to replace the brakes. Is it something I can do? Can I find out if I need the front or rear just by taking the tires off? (tools?) If I shouln't do it myself how much should I spect to pay? Any and all info will be very wellcome.
Thanks a lot in advance for any help!

well disc brakes are not that hard to replace , you can pick up the pads at a auto parts store and you will expect to pay like $20 for stock type pads per set. All you really need is the driver to get the tire off and a c-clamp. I suggest to get a hanes or chilton manuel for your car it will tell you exactly how to do it. Around here to get your brakes done its $80 for one set. So you would save $60 to do it yourself...good luck

Get a manual, such as the Haynes manual, and follow the directions. This is really a very easy project as far as car repairs go.

Yes, get the Haynes manual, I have both, and my Chilton said that I needed a #40 Torx to get the calipers off. After what seemed like forever, I realized it was actually an allen that I needed (metric). When I was done, I looked at my Haynes book, and there it was...allen wrench. mad Do it yourself. Very easy.
