As of today, I am the owner of a silver '99 Contour SVT. The car has only 23,000 miles on it. The front two rotors appear to have some kind of oxidation on them. They are kind of a yellowish color. I haven't noticed any problems in functionality, but I was wondering what caused this and if ther is anything that should be done about it? Is this a common thing?

Maybe you have some aged dacromat coating that is discoloring. The dacromat finish when new is nearly silver in color. On the SVT, the front and rear rotors ans well as front and rear calipers are dacromat treated. There should be no discoloration on the face of the rotor though since the dacromate would have worn off from normal braking within two or three thousand miles.

If the discoloration is on the face of the rotor then I don't know why unless it is something from the pads.

Congratulations on your newly aquired SVT.

I got some new eurorotors cadmium plated after seeing the OEM rotors rot to pieces in 50K miles. Hopefully the cadmium plate will hold up in the road salt...

Ya know, I was going to ask this very question myself today. I bought my '98 Contour SVT back in December (my first SVT). Every time it rains, my rotors get a layer of rust on them. Then when I drive and hit the brakes, the rust dust gets all over my wheels and makes them look almost gold in color. I spent over an hour on Saturday cleaning the rust discoloration off my wheels, then an unforecast rain shower went through on Sunday. Now I have friggin rust dust discoloration all over my wheels again! Grrrr!

Any thoughts? Cheap rotors?
