Search the archives and you'll find countless cases of this.. I've warned enough people, but no one seems to listen, but all eventually will put a resonator back in, because it makes long drives pretty annoying.

I myself haven't heard the car w/o mufflers, but I'm guessing it can't be too bad, as they're pretty straight-through mufflers to begin with, so I doubt they do much of a muffling job.. If you're looking for extra power though, you're looking in the wrong place, even an aftermarket cat-back is only going to give you 7-8hp tops..

I have a removed resonator, and I love it.
when it's cold it rasps alot, which is the only problem. As it warms up it sounds great. It is loud, but only when you get on the gas hard or let off and use engine braking. The most drone comes with engine braking. Long drives aren't annoying for me (I live 30 mins from the closest major town), the car is basically silent. (, about as much noise as any car I've driven with a cat-back.)

The couple of horsepower is supposed to be dyno proven. I imagine that the resonator removal adds more than the muffler removal. I've heard a muffler-less SVT and think it's too quiet.

You missed my first sentance.. On an *SVT*, it makes a huge difference - The drone is unbelievable.. Trust me, I had it on my car for close to 5 months, and people couldn't believe it when they heard it.

I don't think it's worth it. You get extra noise that is not of the highest quality (mostly interior drone and exterior rasp) and about 2 horsepower if you're lucky.

Chopping off the end mufflers will probably result in a larger proportion of the sound being outside the car, not inside with you. It will sound better too. This is still only worth about 2hp max, but at least it should sound better.

I have had my res removed for about 2 weeks and I love the sound. I really hate the drone. When it's cold, it sounds really raspy, but once it warms up, it sounds great.
I've talked to my local muffler shop about a Flomaster in place of the res, and no factory mufflers, but he wants alot. It would be cheaper for me to Cardoc's exhaust. And I'm going to!

You could always just buy a Bassani cat back from the group buy, add 7hp at the wheels and be done with it.

If you're around Detroit, Doug's Muffler in Mt CLemens has doen quite a few of our cars, and he knows the COntour SVT well, with each of us taking a different route, yet at the same time all getting excellent results. Email me if you want more info.

I cut my rear muffs on my SVT and replaced it with a straight pipe and two resonator tips. The sound is awesome. Dont cut the resonator. You will hate the drone. With the two muffs cut and the resonators the sounds is all outside the car. No drone. ANd it sounds mean. My dos centavos.

Ok, the res removal is a performance mod as well. It may not add a lot of HP but for my SVT it made the transition into the secondaries considerably smoother. The difference was instantly noticed. I also do not have to go into my secondaries nearly as much with the str8 pipe in city driving (I have driven the same route for 2 years). If you don't like it loud then put a aftermarket hi-flow muffler/resonator in there but DO NOT leave the stock res in there...IT BITES A$$!!

I agree with everyone else it sounds great at first but after a while it gets old and u just want that much nicer sound from a nice cat back system. I have removed my resonator about 3.5 months ago and now I regret it. I would like my car to be less suspecting. (For a race that is) Well but that is just my opinion.
