Can anyone recommend a good muffler shop near Atlanta? I need to replace my main cat, but I also want to remove the resonator (replaced with a straight pipe) while it's up on the racks.

I was quoted a price of $50 to do the resonator removal only at Nationwide Mufflers near Decatur/Tucker, but I think that's kinda high since some on here had it done for around $20.

Thoughts?

Thanks ya'll.

I got my custom work done at Andy's Muffler in Snellville, GA. From Stone Mountain take 78 East to highway 124 in snellville. Take a left on 124 and go about a block. Andy's muffler is on the right. If you see the hifi buys, you've gone too far.

They built my custom y pipe, cut off my third cat and resonator, and installed custom pipe and a bullet muffler all for around $250. Maybe they can help you out too.

That sounds awesome! Thanks for the input. I was probably going to spend around $200 for a replacement cat, resonator removal, and labor anyway, so I might as well get the REAL setup for only a few bucks more. Sweet!

Isn't it illegal to have the main/3rd cat removed? (Not that I care!) Don't the GA emissions inspectors look for one underneath? But I'm sure Andy's Muffler will know the score...

Hey man, it is technically illegal to tamper with any properly functioning catalytic converter. BUT this didn't phase the guys at Andy's muffler b/c they said the pre-cats should be enough to pass emissions. Since my car is emissions exempt until 2002, I'm not worried about it too much. I do not think that Georgia law requires a visual inspection, but I could be wrong. Besides...Andy's Muffler DOES EMISSION INSPECTION too! they'll help you pass.
wink

Good luck. Later on.

BTW, do you happen to live in the Decatur/Tucker Area? I just moved to Tucker..I'm off of South Norcross-Tucker Rd. There are a bunch of us that met here on the boards and get together from time to time to go to events/do mountain runs/etc. You should join up with us sometime. We usually post our plans here. Later.

Let's just say there's a thick piece of metal tubing where a goverment-mandated piece of "equipment" used to reside! smile

I've still got a minor hesitation problem under acceleration (that I thought was caused by a clogged main cat), but I definitely have some new-found HP under foot. And the sound....BALLSY!

You can also try Lord's Muffler in Buford. They have done a good bit of custom work for some of my father's cars cool
