What do you guys think of an Eclipse GSX? 98 with 20K on it, pure stock for 10 grand? One of my mothers friends.

Ugh, 2G = crankwalker.

For 3K you can buy a bone stock early 2G, 2K into a 6 bolt motor, and still have 5K left to take your girl on a cruise.

If you get it, make sure to get the new Apexi. The one that measures crankwalk and main bearing damage!

I know about the earlier 2G, but as far as finding a decent one that has been taken cared of is something else. I know for a fact this car has been taken cared of, I might be wrong but she told me it's never been over 70mph eek She's 66 years old. I'm always weary of buying any used turbo cars, but a new HKS turbine seems really tasty :rolleyes:

Guess I wasn't clear. Too much bad sarcasm.

OK, let's try again.

2nd generation DSM's suffer from a BAD condition called crankwalk.

A 'walking' crankshaft is a crankshaft that moves too much inside the engine. The movement is usually due to the crankshaft not fitting inside its bearings correctly. While not bad for the crankshaft, the movement can place excessive or uneven loads on the bearings, causing premature failures.

Although Mitsu claims no fault in this, it is pretty evident it is a design flaw. Nobody knows the exact cause of the walk, but there are theories. It can be difficult to tell if a particular car is experiencing crankwalk. Symptoms are usually indirect and difficult to diagnose until major damage occurs.

So, as you can see, might be in your best interest to steer clear. Like I said, buy a post 1995 2G and slap a 6 bolt 1G motor in it for a fraction of the cost. And also, is this an ATX???

Also, that Apexi is a joke.

No its a standard, use to be her sons until he couldn't make payments so she just took it off his hands, I wouldn't even consider an ATX. Ok so what are some of the differences between a 1G and a 2G motor? Displacement etc...
