I am coming down to visit my parents for about two weeks and am thinking about getting rid of my NY license and getting a FL one. However the only reason I would do this is so that points from out-of-state violations would not affect my record. This is how NY does it but I am unsure about FL. I could not find anything on the FL DMV webiste about it. Any of you guys know what I am talking about?

I'm not sure if it will take the points off, NY and Fl have a direct replacement license, meaning you do not have to retake the driving test. But other than that just bring the DMV proof of adress change and take the vision test.

You might run into problems in NY with license plates or other odd issues.

per FL SS: If you reside in the state of FL or change your address within the state, you must notify DHSMV withing 10days, or face a $44.00 non-moving violation. Your drving record is no big deal, it's always on there though, more so if you have a D.U.I. I have a little bit of knowledge in this area. -Jon

it's not the points I have now (2) that I care about so much as not getting more of them. Right now because I am down here If I get a speeding ticket I just pay the fine, this is really good out of state however in state everything goes back to the points system (bad) I hope this makes more sense?
