Well, there are two possibilities presented before me, and I need some input.

Do I:

1) accept my dad's 99 taurus se (3.0L Duratech w/ 185 hp, 200 ft-lbs) and make it as fast as I can without spending more than a couple G's (headers, cold air intake, exhaust(it's already dual), sportier suspension, some ground fx to change that "fish" look)

2) Or wait an uncertain amount of time (maybe at least 6 months) for a possibly faster car, like an svt contour, stratus r/t, or cougar

Now, I know that an automatic tranny grocery getter won't be as fast potentially as the others, but it's not really necessary as I'm not planning to race at the track... just put a surprised frown on the occasional unsuspecting ricer cruising on the weekend and have a car some would be jealous of...

what do you all think...

Why don't you go look at the CSVT at Sawgrass Ford. I looked at it. I didn't see anything obviously wrong with it. It was in good shape. There are a ton of SVT's around.

Well, yes there are.. in fact I looked at a very nice 98 near me at Marlin Mazda that was priced right and everything... it's just my parent's have a lot of money going out right now and less coming in, (my dad works on commission and is waiting for a big deal to go through, in a few months) so I have to wait not only for that, but we also need to find a new insurance company that will be lenient on an 18 year old male and a third car... we have Progressive and they're taking us to the bank. Hence, it's a question of whether I should wait even longer than I have thus far or jump on the (less fulfilling) opportunity. You all know the impatience a teenager feels to get their first car that's actually their own.
