Warning - keep off the go pedal on the GW Parkway. In the 3+ years I have lived here and driven this road, I've seen cops clocking people on it 4 times. The 5th was last Tuesday, and I was the unlucky recipient of a LTI 20-20 beam at 1534' near Turkey Run saying I was going 83 in a 50. Which is also automatic reckless in VA. So I'm going to the US District court in Alexandria in two weeks. I checked it out - I'm going to defend myself and I think I have a pretty good defense. I'm not going to jinx myself and publish it yet, but I'll post it after the court date. I've seen cops on there every day the past week now (something to do with that Smooth Operator program) and you better believe I'm letting everyone pass by me until I get this one cleared. Those park police are completely by the book. The cop was a little abrasive at first but he cooled down and let me check out the gun. Which is going to help my defense.

Yeah, bad road for speeding. Usually not too many cops during rush hour, but watch out at all other times. The 45MPH limit is a complete joke and an insult to anyone with a brain, and they will enforce it.

I'm shocked that you've only seen cops that many times in three years... I have driven that road a ton, but nothing approaching regularly, over about 4 years and I've seen more cops than I could possibly count. Hell, I've seen ten times that many people actually pulled over.
I never speed on that road, anywhere the park police are is bad news, they have nothing else to do to occupy their time...

I used to drive that road all the time. I have never seen a cop out there. I was on my down to OC this past weekend and saw the "shells" they are using. Right behind it was a "real" state trooper. Thought it was pretty funny. I am suprised that there are spottings on GW though. When I was driving that road I was not one for keeping it at a sane speed. It was a great road for picking on un-knowing Eclipse GSX and GS-T's. Silly people. Good luck with the court case. Awhile back in MotorTrend they had talk about there being a way to argue the fact that if the operator points the gun at the windshield and the bumper it's at least a 12mph diff.

Do you know what issue of Motor Trend that was? I'll try to look on the website. I can use any ammunition I can get. I always reverse commute on the GW parkway - maybe that's why I never see cops. Plus I normally only drive it during rush hour. They don't typically mess with pulling people over in busy traffic b/c it makes traffic worse.
I'll let y'all know how I make out in court.
