OK - so I've cooled off since this AM - now I'll admit there are many times in my life I've deserved a ticket - however this AM was not one of them. I am heading west on Wilson Blvd in Arlington. I'm driving along at about 40MPH. See cop on other side of the road... wammo... he turns around and pulls me over. Says I was doing 42 in a 30. Well I drive this road every day and said I thought it was a 35. He says no all roads here in Arlington county are 30MPH. Well on the way home today heading east bound there's 2 signs 100ft from where he stopped me - 35MPH!!!!! How can this be 30MPH on the westbound side!!!

I think this is grounds for fighting the ticket..even if I can't find a 35MPH sign on the westbound side. Thoughts? How hard is it to fight tickets here in VA!!

Thanks - sorry for the long rant!! laugh This kinda stuff just pisses me off mad

Tickets like that are pretty hard to fight cause the cop is going to be a d!ck in court just like he was for giving you the ticket. I drive that road every day as well and am often at 40-50mph. I would say to look at the ticket and see exactly where he wrote you up at and then look at that section for posted signs. Don't know all that much about VA but in MD if there are no posted speed limit signs in a residential (sp) area it's 35mph (sure you know that though). Anyway try and fight it, the most that can happen is you'll have to pay the 30 bucks in fees.

K,
You may have to do some more research and take some pictures.

Back on Long Island New York, this used to happen all the time. Roads make good places to draw lines.

I lived on "County Line Road" in Amityville. One side was Nassau County, and my side was Suffolk Co. A distance of about 30 feet from one sidewalk to another.

Same kind of thing that bit you was at the border with Garden City and Miniola. On the north side of the street the county speed limit was 40 and the South or Garden City side was 30.

If you can't find a clearly marked area and prove it in court, you may just have to eat this ticket.

It's not the best news I have ever spread.
Good luck and be well.

Jack Crow

ps I won't blame you if you never talk to me again.

Hmmm I was going to down Route 7 doing 65 and passed a state boy and he didn't do anything. I guess he cops around Arlington (can't spell) are just plain ole d!cks.

All - Thanks for the info. Although doesn't sounds like I stand the best chance. Plan to take a walk through the area (and look where the address listed on the ticket is exactly located) prior to fightin. If I can't find a nice 35MPH sign near there then I'll likely eat the ticket. It's only $66 bucks - and I'm from LI org also - so compared to tickets up there very cheap - but it's the principle of it wink And the fact that the ole insurance company will likely have a field day!

KJ - In VA if there are no speed limit signs posted in residential areas it is a 25mph limit vs. the MD 35mph. This is what I learned on the VA driving test after failing it 3 times... eek

K,
Got an Arlington ticket about a year and a half ago over there by Shirlington, something like 45 on a 30 by a Motorcycle cop. I had all my stuff planned but when i was called up in court, the judge basically did'nt even allow me to speak - he jut asked if i knew how fast i was going(i said no, SIR;)) and he took off the speeding fine, took off the points and just had me pay the 30 processing fee.
Just plan to show up in court, look really decent, professional, act corteous, respectful and polite - chances are you wont pay the full price in fines or points.
regards, eugene

Eugene - When I went to the FFX Co. courts for a speeding ticket the judge made an announcement before anything started that he cannot change points, this is set by the DMV. The courts can only change the fines (which mine were reduced since I showed up). Dont know about Arlington Co. but FFX Co. has little leniancies. (sp)

Hey ex-neigbor, why did you move to the peoples republic of maryland wink ?
Cant comment on that one cause ive never had a ticket from fairfax - (been pulled over for dark tint on my scort but turned out it was my old neighbor - got luckyLOL)anyways - the judge did reduce/cancel my speeding violation, so maybe thats what happened - or maybe your judge just said that becasue he did not want to bother -all i know is what my judge declared - no points and no fine - just a fee. And my insurance did not go up on the last renewal.
