just got back, show was ok, would have been better if i was more into showcars but it is a fun trip none the less. the show was in atlantic city (what a dump). saw one SVT in the show. it was silver with blue graphics and looked pretty good. there were also a couple of cougars (kim) entered, one of them was sick. anyway, lost some $$ gambling and had a good time overall. i think ill be going next year.

can someone help me understand why people enter domestic cars into a car show that is for imports? am I missing something? do they create this import car show and then say "oh let's make a class for the domestic folks"? please enlighten little ol' kimmy
(btw, I probably woulda retched at the cougars that were representing at that show from the sounds of it - those people can be more uncle bens than civic owners at times).

hehe, uncle bens. the cougars were tastefully done. the cougars and contour werent that out of place, at least they are sport compacts. someone had also entered a dodge ram 1500 that had a lift kit and huge tires also. now THAT was out of place.

does ANYONE have ANY respect for ANYONE who performs a mod to there car that affects the way it looks?? is that so wrong?? granted, most of the people who do sutch things either go too far or screw it up completely but come on now not everyone who puts on a body kit or whatever you dont like is a "riceboy" or whatever you want to call them. i admire some of these people for the enginuity and effort they put into their cars. and, a lot of the cars there would smoke many of us so dont say they are all show no go. sorry for getting bent out of shape but some of those guys have some kickass rides.

i agree. some of those cars look really good. but the majority of them look really REALLY bad, IMO. to each their own. i go for the subtle lines and power over looks.
and i was also commenting on the non-imports at an import car show. but when you break it all down, all cars are imports in some way. i mean, how many mass-produced cars are designed and made in the US anymore...not many.

exactly, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a viehicle which was designed, had its parts manufactured and final assembly all done in the country which the manufacturer's headwuarters are located.
Take an Acura, they are a product of the Honda Motor co. which is based in Japan. But the some of the Acura model line up available for sale in the US is assembled in the US, as well as some Honda models.
I'm sure a host of other companies do the same, they are based in one country, but have facilities in foreign countries, as well as sub-contract other areas of the manufacturing.
Chrysler has some of its car engines built by Mitsubishi. A few of the compact cars marketed by Chevrolet are built by Suszuki, the Duramax diesel engine in the Chevy trucks are built by Isuzu, the Toyota Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe are essentially the same thing. And so on.
the automotive, heck, the manufaturing industry is very incestuous.
With that, you have to ask yourself, is there really such a thing as an import?
The Hot Import Nights, I like to think of it as a display show for modern viehicles with both asthetic and performance modifications. If you like them, fine, if not, thats fine too, its all about opinion and perception. Something you think is atrocious someone else will think is beautiful. In fact, I'm happy to see them allowing both foreign and domestic viehicles to enter the show. Its more of a comming together of viehicle owners that share a common intrest.
