Considering Ray McNairy's throttle-hang fix of plug in bypass air valve. What are the drawbacks? Sounds like an easy mod for a more responsive car....

I don't know that you'll see any performance gains from this mod, but the "throttle hang" was certainly improved. I've had mine in for 15K miles without any draw backs. Although I have an ATX, the return-to-idle time is much quicker. The step down to normal idle is also faster and more pronounced when the engine is first started. (95s have OBD1 computer which seems much slower at this) The TH fix also reportedly cures the moose howl that occurs with the v6 intake system.

I believe the "more responsive car" mod refers to the EGR restrictor. This has also been trouble free for 12K miles and "feels" like it really works, especially on my ATX.

Some claim that the car is a bit more sluggish in low RPM. I use the ATX shifter a lot and it is much better with the fix in. Best 69 cents I ever spent.

There has been a lot of discussion about this on the list and you may want to do a search on the list archives.

Some say that they notice a drop in mid range power with the modification. I have not noticed such a problem with mine.

It seems to keep the cold idle a little lower. Not much of a problem much of the time, but a little bothersome in really cold weather. I find that it works fine for me if I drive about a block before turning on the rear defroster. On a cold morning with the heater on, the lights on, the radio on, and the rear window defroster on the engine may stall immediately after starting. Doing something to lower the alternator demand seems to help. Some remove the plug during the winter. Some have two plugs and use the one with a slightly larger hole in the winter, but most just leave the same plug in there year around.

Try it. You'll like it.

Here's a BIG drawback that made me to take the plug out. If you have the Moose Pipe, you might have problem because the plug might not stay in the same place. Mine moved towards the MAF and turned sideway... I had to take it out because I couldn't keep it in place again...

The BAT pipe includes the moose fix. You don't have to worry about the plug shifting and it looks good too.

Disclaimer: The above statement is only valid if your able to actually recieve a product from BAT.

use a black zip tie to hold it in place, maybe one on either end of it.
