I did a search on this a few months ago and found that someone just replaced all of there 02 sensors and it fixed his problem. Which was the same code reading. I would say if you have all of the cats still on it will still pass emissions and if it doesn't bring it to Ford and make them fix it. With just one cat it will probably pass emissions anyways. Not sure if I would want some dealer changing my exhaust manifolds.

Just an FYI... If your car is equipped with California emissions, the cat warranty is 7 year 70,000 miles. If not, then 8/80.... This is the case with my car.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I pulled this code a couple of months ago in my car and then freaked out about it. I was home at the time (New York) and I went to see my trusty mechanic of 8 years. He cleared the code for me and noticed my engine running rough. He determined that I had a bad tank of gas (filled up in Vermont a couple of days before) and that this could trip the p0420 code. Hasn't been back since and I have put about 3000 miles on the car. :p

So does anyone know if this P0420 code is in the EEC memory, will they still attempt to do the emissions test on your car to see if you pass? Or do they say, you have a check engine light, you fail...

This is the case with my car.
SH*T !!! I think my car is equipped with Cali emmisions. I'll be wicked pissed if this is the case. If so im going to try to have them fix it no charge anyway. After all the car is in Mass no Cali. EDIT: Just confirmed it.. It is in fact equipped with Cali. emmisions! Sh*t and to think they charged an extra $170. for that and give a less warranty. Now wtf do I do

I just looked at my 1998 Warranty guide to make sure I wasn't feeding you misinformation. My guide clearly states that cars equiped for sale in California (California Emissions) have a cats warranty of 7/70. You should call Ford to confirm this, but it is in "black and white" as they say. But, a dealer might overlook this fact and fix them anyway. Oh, get some headers if you have to pay. Might as well benefit from a power increase if you are going to spend the money.
