I went to go put in my new radio today and wouldn't you know it, i ran in to a problem. I bought the harnesses. There are 2 one that plugs from the back of the radio into the one that plugs in to the cars wires....that's right no cutting and splicing....I was just wondering why the hell there is one long thin connector (grey/black) and one square connector (black). Does everyone have this? or did they buy a wiring harness that has the same thing to plug it in to? Anyhelp would be spledid. If someone had to cut and splice do they know which wire is which speaker? Thanks

There are 2 connectors for a reason. The SVT's come with a "premium" sound system.

That means there is an amp located behind the glove box. The long connector is actually an amp-bypass connector. This connector plugs directly into the speaker wires that connect the factory amp. So, what you want to do is disconnect the wires that go from the amp to the door speakers. Plug the long harnass into that connector with the other end going into the back of your receiver.

Once you have done this, the amp is basically useless. The other harness is for the the power to the receiver. This is shorter and has the big black rectangle connector. Just plug this into the connector that sits behind the reciever.

Oh yeah, you have to "remove" the glovebox to get to the amp. It is the silver thing sitting a little to right of center of the glove box.

Hope this helps!!!!! smile

Yep, what Ed describes sounds correct, assuming you bought the right kit with the amp bypass. Take that old amp out and use it as a paper weight.

at least you have the option of a amp bypass harness. When I had my other SVT, I had to build my own bypass harness since there was no pre-made harness on the market yet.
