I just noticed that the wiring harness to the left of the throttle body on my 95 V6, it has three wires running to it, the insulation has worn off and the wires are now touching!! What is this....and I know this is bad....but can it hurt anything. Does anyone know the part number because I need to order a new harness and splice the wires together........
Thanks........

are you talking about the Mass air flow sensor on top of the intake tube? The worst that will do is cuase your check engine light to come on, it is probably just shorted, and there fore acts like it not even there...either way...its probably just a sensor and wont hurt a thing. Just buy some heat shrink tubing, snip the wires, slide some heat shrink on one side, splice the wires back together (if yu have 'skilz', you'd solder the joint to be safe), slide the heatshirink over the joint and blow it with a blow drier untill it shrinks . i'd also cover up the wires with some more tape, or better yet... WIRE LOOM! Good luck...

I beleive that your talking about the TPS sensor. I would recommend wrapping the wires in electrical tape and not cutting anything. If your car is under 100,000 Miles you can take it to Ford and have the underhood Wiring harness Recall done. I did and it made a world of difference.

I don't know if this has been done to your car or not... but has the Wiring Harness been changed due to the factory recall? I took my Mystique to a Lincoln Mercury back on 11/06/99. They told me they replaced it, but didn't. Three years later, I start stalling at highway speeds almost getting my a** killed in rush hour traffic. Had a Ford dealership do the work! I can't help you with info on what damage it may cause... but I'm sure if you have wires touching with no insulation on them... it can't be good. Get it looked at... and if they have not replaced the harness due to recall - get it done ASAP. By the way, I really like your car... looks like mine just not the "Young American Edition". I called Bill Jenkins...he told me about this recall......which I've never heard about. I now have 142k on my car. It figures, I've gotten 5 notices in the mail for the cooling fan recall but never one for this recall regarding this wiring harness. I've taken my car to Ford several times and they've never mentioned it. I guess I'll need to make a phone call. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about getting this fixed. I can hear them now...you are over 100k.....nothing we can do. My answer....the recall has been out since 99? Why no notice? Their answer...tough! Any help......especially from you inside Ford guys...RaRa...would be greatly appreciated.

Well with you being over 100K I'm sure they'll turn you down to do it under warrenty. The cost on the repair is like 500 bucks I beleive. You might be able to talk them into paying half labor, but even then I'm doubtful. It sucks I know. If only Ford's manufacturer had used the right materials to begin with...
Oh and it's a service recall and not a Safety Recall. So they aren't required to notify you.

Yeah, it's a major deal to replace the harnesses. I never received a letter but the dealer noticed I had spliced in some new wires where the old ones had cracked and mentioned the recall. They took care of the wiring but turned me down on a second cat replacement.

My lights seem to flicker and my power fluctuates slightly every time I take my foot of the gas. Have any of you experienced this when your wiring harnesses have been chard?

I think you should be able to remove the red or yellow retainer from the plug and remove the terminal from the plug (just use a jeweler's screwdriver to lift up on the plastic finger that holds the terminal in, so that you can slip the heatshrink tubing over the terminal and over the wire without needing to cut it...
