I'm writing this post with a few questions about the shifter mod, could you please help.
How much did you cut off the length of the shifter rod? Is it the same diameter all the way down or did you cut it off short of any taper or is it too shallow of a taper to worry about? What thread is the die (I'll need to borrow one from work)? How extensive is it to rip apart the whole thing (how much time will it add to the mod)? What grease is recommended to re-lube the shifter/assembly?
Thank-you.

I we cut mine off about 1.5 inches, Sparks said he originally cut his MUCH shorter. The rod is the same diameter all the way down. We didn't rethread mine, just put a Momo AirLeather knob on it (which has a set screw), it took Shaun all of 5 minutes to have the shifter out of the car and on a table, about 10 minutes to take it apart on the table and regrease, using White Lithium Grease. Any other questions? -Chris

Golof, it changes the throw in essence, but it still has the same feel of the stock shifter. The geometry remains the same, therefore the shift only "feels" different. If you have a chance, once cut you shifter, try to find someone with the B&M. You will "feel" a huge difference

As said by others, I does shorten the throws some, nothing like a B&M though, as you're not lenghtening (sp?) the lower part of the rod. Sure helps in taking that 1988 Tercel look out of the shifter tho!
