This probably belongs in the problems forum, but yeah I've been having the same issue with my 98 SVT. The dealer's diagnosis was a melting wiring harness behind the HVAC panel and replaced it under warranty. I also had a weird burnt plastic smell in the car. Didn't have the problem ever since they replaced that harness.
Something to look into...
