Ok Guys and gals, I know this should really go in the Wheels forum, but I want to hear from someone in close distance to me about this.

Has anyone gone to a wider tire on their Tour.

What I mean s 225 50-16. I want to do the KDW in that size, but I keep hearing from TireRack that I shouldn't do it or I start rubbing.

What should I do, does anyone have any ideas, has anyone gone wider on the stock rim. Don't get me wrong, I will probably get new rims within a year, which means I might have to sell the tires next year on e-bay or something, but for now I would like to go wider on this rim. My next jump would be to get OZ Superlugera's in 17" and slap some 225 45-17. But that is not an issue right now.

give me your advice, if anyone has gone wider, would you mind if we met up one day so I can take a look at how it measures up?

Thanks,

Dave

You might want to see if you can get a hold of James Johnson on the main board. I think he has been running 225's on the 16" rim without rubbing. I've got 215's on a 17" wheel, and when loaded with passengers in the backseat and my stereo gear, I get a little bit of rubbing (onramps mostly). I had this same problem when I bought a set of 16" TSW Hockenheim R's with 205's back when I had my '95 SE. I think that if you get a hold of James, he will advise you that not all 225's are built alike, and some will rub. The other option is to have your fenders rolled, but I'd worry about the paint cracking and rust forming.

Stop by.. we can put my race tires on your car..

16" rims.. with 225/50

I've never had an issue with them running. My understanding is that some do and some don't. You have to try.

You got an idea there Dave. If you don't mind, lets do it.

Let me know what day would be cool for you. Wedns night would be cool for me, I just want to take a peak at how it holds up. If I don't like what I see I will be ordering the 215 the next day.

Let me know.

Bring an air pump.. they've been sitting since last season and being racing tires.. they go flat very very quickly. You can always stop by and just load them into your car, don't worry.. I do it all the time, they'll fit and I have bags for them so you won't get any marks on your car. Just make sure your trunk is empty.

Hey Dave,

Unfortunately something came up. I think I am going to take your advice and stick with the 215. They were designed for the car, and since I don't do any surreal type of auto x driving where I would need a wider patch, the 215 will do nicely. I just don't want to hurt my baby more than she already is.

Thanks again though.
