Quick Question, got a speeding last Sat. in CT, doin' (according to the state trooper) 73 in 55 (i think i was goin' slower 'cause i braked and reset cruise to 65) Anyway, should i just pay fine ($198) and accept, or fight this through a lawyer, and ifso, does anyone of you know any good ones, ps, no points for my license.
Bad thing, yesterday was exactly the date that i immigrated from Holland, how sarcastic huh ?!?

Good ticket fighting resource: http://www.motorists.org/issues/tickets/ Search Yahoo for "speeding" and you'll probably find more.

Hey man....I feel your pain. This is the best advice I can give you, if you are from CT you have nothing to lose by going to court and fighting the ticket except time. If you are not from CT you could fight it or not? It is kind of tricky. Ive been in and out of court quite a few times and my experiences have led me to believe if you dont want points take the time out to fight the ticket. If you are out of your state and get a moving violation from what I hear at least one point is going to be transfered to your DL but ive also heard that if you just pay it there will be no points transfered. It is hit or miss. BUT if you do go to court be prepared. Dress the part of a neat law abiding citizen and talk to the prosecutor and see what he is willing to do for you. Some guys want to hear your side some dont. If im not mistaken you are looking at a 4 pt. ticket for your speed. Usually the court will amend that to a 2 pt. ticket and youll pay a higher fine. If you are lucky and he is told that this is your first offence he might ammend it even further but dont count on it. If you dont want any points at all then it is time for you to go get your local Johnny Cocrane. It is not cheap for a lawyer but you get what you pay for. Expect to pay upwards of 200 to 500 dollars american to get yourself one. If you have one you will be in and out of court much quicker and with no points in most cases. But you will be paying bucks. In your situation I dont see a need for one but it is up to you. I would go there and see if you can have it ammended down and pay a little more for less points. Hope this helped and if you have any more questions Ill be happy to try and help.

thnx for the replies so far, will search yahoo tomorrow, thanx for the link. Officer told me no points, so that's cleared. But since we're as Dutch are pretty cheap ;), so after reading this, i'd better off paying for the ticket and not getting any points. BTW, don't think i have time to go to court Again, thanx

CT talks to NJ and vice versa. So there will be *points*. I say fight it. The worst that the judge can say is no and stick you with the original penalty. But, if you have a clean record the judge should show some leniancy (sp?). Check the NJ DMV site and you can even email them with the points question. Of course, I can't find the link! Good luck!

You need to find out if CT and NJ have what's called RECIPROCITY with each other. That means does each state report speeders to the other for the state's DMV records. I live in MA, and I know we don't have reciprocity with NY, but I'm not so sure about CT. Also, make sure the officer filled out the ticket completely AND accurately!! Many officers have lost their citations becuase they've done stupid things, like filling out the wrong color of the car, misspelling someone's name, and, my favorite, filling out the section where it asks if the officer got a radar(or LIDAR here in MA)reading or if they estimated the speed. Sometimes, they fill in both bubbles, which automatically renders the ticket moot, because you CAN'T estimate a radar reading If you would like more info, I would be more than happy to help-visit me in th New England chapter. Good Luck!!

Looked @ ticket already, couldnt find anythign, but will have closer look. NJ and MA have reciprocity, my wife's license got supsended for that reason. She had an accident here in NJ, while our car was still on MA plates, with her MA license, she hit a schoolbus, paid all fines in NJ, after three months (!!!?!?!!) she received notice from MA DMV, that her license got suspended, hitting a schoolbus in MA is reckless driving, which leads to license suspension, e.g. either pay $400, or don't have license for two months.... so including this ticket, the Goverment got their tax rebate already back from us
