Just wondering why these cars are so good at accelerating. I'm thinking that it is because the gearing is low (eg :80mph for me is bang on 3500rpm)

Opinion's ????

ps : At what point does your car stop "pulling" ?? For me, it's at around ~80 or so, I don't get a shove when I floor it in 5th, 4th is better.

Thx...

My car pulls really well up through 110, or so... after that, it gradually slows, until I reach peak at about 140-ish.

The biggest drop-off, however, would be around 90-95, in 4th.... anything after that isn't a DURGE if you slam the pedal. it just starts pulling hard... Then again.. that is why I like the duratec.. it just KEEPS ON pulling, and pulling....

Yes, it's low geared, compared to something like the 1.9L ford escort (which turns at 2500RPM at 65 in 5th, compared to about 3000RPM for the contour)

I, for one, would be highly interested in hearing stories re: contour gearing/regearing. I don't care much myself if I lose some economy and top-end if changing the ratios would make a noticable difference w/ a 5sp (and prob would). Actually it's less stressful also if you can drive deep gears well....I've always wondered. 1/2 sec 0-60 seems conservative if final drive ratio was bumped down 10-20%....after all, it's a light car...I dunno.

98 CSVT, basic mod's, my slowest car yet but still faster than the wife's Talon Tsi AWD. Not by much, though. Now if I could get the back wheels to do something....
