Does anybody know waht the 2 plastic parts that are attached to each side of the grill on the inside of the upper front grill, are they really necessary?

Thanks Eddie

The front oval grille is composed of two parts, the black plastic ring which includes the stock "mesh" and the chrome ring that is attached to it via melted connections.

You are talking about something on the black ring...right?

Hey Giovanni, what's the best way to get that stock mesh for a non-svt out of there? I ended up breaking and chipping away at it with a chisel, but is there a way to seperate the plastic from the "chrome" plastic piece?

Common concensus is to use a small drill, and drill away at the melted connecctions (on the back) until the oval pops out..
Hope that helps..

if you look at the back of the grill.
you will see 12 melted spots.
you need to grind these out using a dremel.
try not to grind awat too much of the black plastic.
once all 12 are ground away enough, the grill halves will separate.

elky - the mesh queen.

he did mine and it's perfectly secured - and easy to take apart and put back together - when a repainting of the oval needs to be done. wink laugh

Yup, I forgot what size I used, maybe 3/16"?

Here is a how-to I found, I pretty much did it the same way...
http://www.contour.org/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000587

It's not much fun, but if you already started chipping away it, you don't have much of a choice... smile

It looks really good though...but I'm not sure how durable mine is going to be. By durable I mean how well the chrome ring is going to stay connected the black one. I used a lot of welding adhesive...but it still bothers me. I'm positive it will stay put for awhile, I just don't want it falling off two years from now wink

i just screw the black part to the chrome part using the holes created from ginding out the plasti-welds.

i only use 4 screws to hold them together.
i did mine at least 9 months ago and it has yet to fall apart.

Yah' I was sort of emphasizing mine, not everyone who makes one. I drilled out a little too much of the melted connections on a few holes (first time's a charm)...so a few of the 8 screws don't have as much meat to work with but I'm probably just paranoid... laugh

Maybe I'll have to get one at a junkyard and send it to Elky one day :p
