Then server will be sent to Lance, hardware, and software upgrades will be completed as soon as he can, and then server will be sent to its new home, and back running as soon as possible. Estimates put it at about a month after mmars' T1 goes away. (No one knows for sure when it will be shut off, we all assumed it would be shut off on the first.)

Actually, we aren't having the server shipped back here. Andy and his roommate have graciously offered their skills in helping Lance fix some issues on the box. This saves not only the cost of shipping the server, but also the abuse it would incur going cross country twice. We got lucky it made it cross country the first time so well! If Matt's predictions that his company won't turn off the T1 for a couple weeks are right, the sight will probably only go down for a week or two. The SDSL line is in the works right now. For now, we can only pray that Matt's company keeps the T1 going for a couple of weeks.

Mani, Rara, Outback Gal: Thanks for replies.
Sounds like minimum 2 weeks, max 4 weeks of down time.
Regards.

With the extra money that was raised, how about buying a second server???? Doesn't have to be special can be a stripped down single or dual cpu P4, then we won't have any downtime!!!!!! I don't know what I'm gonna do for a month if this site is down that long

The the UBB is much more efficient and we aren't really pushing the processors of the new one because Lance spec'ed it so well. You single biggest point of failure is HD's and with a SCSI raid you don't have to worry about that too much. In other words, it's not worth the money right now!
