I just returned from Watkins Glen race track, where I was at a driver school with the Shelby Mustang Club of Rochester. My 1998 Contour SVT performed fantastic, I would never have believed the type of cars I could keep up with and even pass if I hadn't have been there. There was another SVT performing equally as well. I would like to see a group of SVT's there next year!! Feel free to email me with questions. I was in love with my car before I went, and now I want to marry it and have kids!!!

Yup,
Was looking to go as well, but my engine is knocking . I even had this week off with plans for the trip. Instead, my car is now sitting at the dealer.

Hey Marty - that names familiar. You were one of the guys on our short lived local Rochester CEG list weren't you? I know Al Goldsmith (red SVT out at Xerox with me) is here on the list too. Brian Smith (red SVT) actually works in the same bldg as me now too. I also still have Rick Barnes email at Zexel-Torsen (black SVT). You'd never figure there'd be so many SVT's in Rochester! My 97 SE is feeling outclassed, but only outpowered by a bit :-)

Hey Scott you are correct, I have been running some of the Rochester area SCCA events and haven't seen any other SVT's. We should try again to get everyone together sometime, I'll bring pictures of me passing a new body style corvette. You wouldn't believe how well the car performed at the Glen. Feel free to email me, I'd like to hear about any modifications you guys did to your cars and how they worked...

If the people that are interested in going next year send me your email addresses, I will send out info to everyone for next years event when I get it. I think we could make a really good showing at the event. It is very affordable and you get 2 hours and 40 minutes of track time between the two days. ( that's right over 2 hours ) The entire event was just under $300.00 ( plus new brakes and a tank of gas each day. )

Was that Trackmaster's you went to? I have a buddy that went to that and said it was a blast. I thought I read they required stainless brake lines to run though - was I mistaken or did you find some for the SVT?

my email is kauffman@frontiernet.net,
I know Rick Barnes goess to the local SCCA meets - but only took the SVT once or twice. I've never gone - but if a few of us get together I would give it a try.

Ohh - my mods so far:
UR UDP
KKM
SVT TB
errr, "HIGH flow" main cat
no resonator
dynomax super turbo
urethane filled front motor mount
SVT rear mount
Energy Suspension sway bushings
Dunlop D60 A2's
Cerwin Vega Stealth 6x8's
Black non-power antenna (really looks alot better than the cheesy silver thing!)
Anti-moose IAC valve
Mobil1 ATF+FM
Phillips BlueVision Low Beams (they're not blue - there cleaner white)

No actually, it wasn't track masters, but a lot of the instructors were from their organization. They had a pretty extensive tech list you had to pass, but it was nothing much for a newer ( 1996+ )car to pass. I added a Simpson 5 point harness and had a nice snell 95 helmet and they didn't even blink for the tech. I have seen stainless brake lines for the SVT advertised, but haven't bought them yet.
I will be attending the SCCA event on Sept. 24th at Delphi. If you want to see the full schedule, it's web page is http://www.flr-scca.com/solo/schedule.html.
We should try to meet there for the run, plan on getting there at about 7:30am if you have never run before, look for my silver SVT.
