I don't get any looks at all. I've gotten at work "Don't you drive a taurus, an escort gt, etc...". Nobody knows what a Contour is or seems to care. Of course, I do work in Greenwich, CT. Cars under 50k are usually reserved for the help or the kids's first car.

Only once did I ever get a real reaction from anyone. This pedestrian waved and jumped up and down like a lunatic while I was stopped at a light.

I rolled down the window with a puzzled look on my face not knowing his problem, he yelled, "Nice car! I wanted to buy one of those!"

Me: "Thanks!"

Him: "I bought a 328i instead"

Me: "I'll trade you!"

Him: laugh

Other than that, people rarely look at my car. Unless I'm on the throttle and they hear the exhaust sound.

I live in a town where EVERY Contique driver looks 50+. No kidding. Nothing against boomers, just an observation.

Yeah I've gotten that...and I'm in high school. That makes it all the sweeter. My car gets noticed a lot actually. If they don't notice it at first they LOVE it after I take them for a ride...in the car. All in all I'm happy with the attention as long as its not from cops.

I had a guy persistantly try to trade me for his his jeep cherokee. My car was parked in front of a friends house and he walks up, walks around it like 3 times staring in the windows, looking at the SVT emblem and the SVT wheels, scratched his head and then came up to the door (House) and knocked. He told me that T-Red with Tan interior was "his color" and wanted to trade me for his SUV.

I told him when I stop caring about performance and handling then I'll drive a SUV

I mainly get the "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???" .reaction only 2 other csvt's in my town so not a common site, Some guy once bet me 50 bucks he could beat my escort....people around this town are morons.. Girls love the car though the CSVT has a damn good looking lines to her..

Suv's are great if you need to go off road (Hunting, fishing, whatever -good choice on a Jeep), but on the road they suck. Bad gas mileage, horrible body roll, etc. Some are made with a ton of HP and may beat a Contour in a straight line but I love the connection with the road you get in a tour in the twisties.

For my purposes, daily driver + weekend trips I couldn't be happier with my SVT...

After numerous trips offroad, countless months in the snow, capacity to put tons of stuff, power off the line and overall maneuverability (sp?), I couldn't have been happier with my Cherokee. Of course, I did beat the crap out of it, which is why I had to trade it in. Wasn't too reliable for road trips anymore.

Also, the jeep was automatic which in tri-state traffic is highly undervalued.

Here's a cute tale:

There are a number of valets at my club who fight over the keys to my car when I come in. They love it. There are a myriad of Porsches, MBs, BMWs, a few Ferraris, some Rolls Royces and pretty much every "nice" car you can name.

Now, this may simply be because it is a car that they can aspire to own and drive for themselves, but that's one of the reasons I love it.
