Got rear ended (rear bumper damage only)
mad and I made sure that the repair
company saved the rear bumper for me.. (new
cost of $831 unpainted)

It's black, has two marks on the rear section
where the conversion van met with the bumper,
one side tab is cracked, and there is one
additional crack (see pictures)

Anyway, shipping probably not an option as
it's pretty big (won't fit in a contour)..
Does anyone need this (maybe for an SE with
SVT exhaust - or someone trying a custom
rear bumper)? It does not have the insert
in the bumper (the flat black grated area)..

Since it's a used part and may or may not be
useable, offer me something in trade you
might just have laying around that you don't
use... Stock shifter (that I can shorten),
maybe an aftermarket intake you took off, a
Playstation that you don't use anymore since
you got that Playstation 2, unused head set
to replace the crap stock stereo, maybe a
working junkyard turbo that you never got
around to... (just make sure it's
something you won't miss if the bumper
becomes an unfinished project or more trouble
than it's worth..)

Anyway, respond here, I'll check it

Only thing, keep in mind that I'll
need you to come and pick it up (bring
nothing smaller than an Explorer)

Here's the pics

(I believe there might be an additional mark
on the bumper-much like a surface scratch
around 2" x 8" long where the repair company
has no respect for your car - might be able
to be buffed out, but I'm thinking you'd
want to spray it anyway after removing the
dents...)

Crack near trunk lid..

Cracked right tab...

Cracked right tab (again)

And final detail pic for reference....

Sorry for taking a while to get back to ya..

Brad, I'd like to help ya out since you responded first.. A problem with meeting in the Quad Cities is that I don't own a vehicle large enough to transport it to Des Moines, IA.. Let me do some checking on shipping from UPS, in this case, it's not the weight, it's the size.. about 3'-0 x 2'-0 x 6'-0. OK, I'm back. Our shipping department is telling me that they think it would ship by weight (10-15lbs).. Not too bad, that might be only about $10 to ship. I guess I'm not too into cosmetic items, but I'll consider the sill panels (actually, I feel bad for ya with the blown engine and I'd like to see the piece go to someone who can have some fun with it). If our digital camera comes back, I'll take more pics of it off the car...

Golof, I'll try to keep you informed with the same, but I think I'll have to give Brad first shot.

Let me know what shipping is going to be. Most of the time the shipping ends up being more than if I just got a new one unpainted from a body shop somewhere... I would have fun with it... center exit customized most likely...

Will do.... but maybe after the holiday weekend and I search for a box and talk to the UPS man myself. Center exit? Great minds must think alike, because I was thinking the same thing... Wondering if the long flat oval corvette tips would fit side by side in the center cutout area.... Hmmm..... cool

Just thought I'd offer some friendly advice. Ship it on a Greyhound bus. All you gotta do is wrap the bumper in some brown grocery store sacks, nothing fancy. Greyhound Package Express (GPX?) on their website will ship it. And heck of a lot cheaper than UPS, who, incidently, wont ship it because of its size compared to the size of their conveyer belts. (atleast thats the story I got, in person) Had a smashed SVT rear bumper shipped from Boston, MA to Tulsa, OK, about 1800 miles.... $68. Took about 8 days, but man, you can't beat the price. One local shipping company, Arrow Trucking, wanted $1100. to ship the same thing.....

Any questions, feel free to email me.

Thanks for the help Dave! I forgot about Greyhound...

BTW, custom bent oval pipe... Corvette tips would cost to much.

Go with Fedex. Shipping only cost me $50 from Texas to Michigan, so I know shipping will be cheap from Chicago to Iowa.
