Has anyone bought the new simoniz cordless waxer/polisher from canadian tire? Just wondering what your thoughts are on it? If it's any good or just a cordless peice of junk.

I used to have one of those big two handed random orbitals but found to be useless for cleaning the car. It actually made more of a mess than anything else. I eventually gave it away to a friend with an LT1 Camaro.

The new Simoniz (?) handheld looks like a good little toy, with the ability to do a better job than the older versions.

I think Ryan or Chris would be able to answer this better, but I think the results will vary depending on the shade of your paint more than anything else. A silver or white car will always mask flaws better than a dark blue, T-red or black car.

Of course, nothing will ever beat a shiny black beauty. wink

Random orbital is best (to avoid paint damage anyway)

About it being a cordless, I dunno. I've never used a cordless, so aslong as it has enough power, and can hold a charge it should be good.

And yes, Dana, lighter coloured cars are better at hiding imperfections, like swirl marks, light scratches, etc.

Oh, and Dana, most polishers make a mess. My boss uses a highspeed rotory polisher, and when he's done he is usually covered with polish. laugh

My forst impression with a random orbitor wwas that it sucked asus. That was 3 years ago. I just pulled it out of storage and tried it again. It actually looked alot better this time around. The changes from last time was the colour of paint....jewel green versus midnight red, and the type of wax used. This time I used myguires (sp). What a difference. Now I just need to strip the car and start from scratch. Just my .02 cents. laugh

I was actually going to go and buy a polisher this weekend and start the long job of polishing etc to my car. I think it will make a big difference. As for the cordless one, I dunno about that. Anything that I have had that is cordless doesnt hold a charge long enough. I didnt see it at Canadian tire today when I was there.

My 2 cents:
If/when I get a polisher, I'm gonna get a top of the line model like a Porter-Cable. No point in saving 50 dollars and get something that's sub-par.

also, to get the best look from your paint you have to start with the basics.

Wash, absolutely no dirt left.
Then the base work: like polish, compound, glaze (depends on what is needed)
then finish it up with a good Carnuba wax.

Also, quick question. Laura, don't you use Zaino? and if so, what do you think of it? I know where i can get it locally, i just want to get some opinions.

What's the size of the cordless waxer/polisher?

Haven't seen acordless one, but I do have a corded 10" simoniz polisher which is already pretty heavy when working on the vertical panels. Can't think of adding on extra pounds of battery pack.
