Hi:

Picked up some spark plugs for the 98 Contour SVT today from ford.

They gave me AGSF32FM plugs....are these correct.
I asked them for double plats

I believe they are supposed to be AWSF32PP

You have to request for double platinums, with the PP designation.

I just recently bought some plugs too but haven't installed them yet. I took the reading off my old plugs and brought it to Ford. They looked it up and the plugs been replaced by what I got: AWSF32F. I'm not sure if they're double plats though.

I put in the Bosch Platinums +4 bought at Canadian Tire last summer. I have had no problems with them. Are these other ones you are talking about better or something? Just wondering.

I don't think so. They're just the stock plugs. My car's running great lately so I may not change them yet - will decide when I pull the upper for cleaning and check on how the plugs look.

There was discussion about the +4's collapsing, due to the reverse firing of the Duratec ignition system. That is to say that the plugs fire from the ground to the centre electrode, necessitating platinum on both ends. This is what I was reading in the Performance Forums. Needless to say, I pulled my + 4's, out of curiousity, and replaced them with Motorcraft double platinum plugs. Upon observation of the +4 plugs, they were in excellent shape, knowing how many km's were put on them by the previous owner of my SVT combined with the mileage I have put on, uumm, very little.
That said, I don't see any problems using the + 4 plugs, now seeing my own plugs. One thing though, they were quite black, verifying that the SVT computer likes to run the motor rich.

I have the +4's in mine and it's beginning to misfire a little. I'm thinking of replacing them soon with Denso Iridiums or NGKs as per Terry's advice.
