Posted this on other forums but didn't get a satisfactory reply. When looking for a tranny for a 99 Cougar everyone wanted the production date of the car, (tranny was somehow improved mid year is my conclusion). My question is, can i put the newer tranny into the older car? I doubt there would be a problem just wanted to make sure.

Not sure about the Cougars but for the cable-shifted Contours ('98 and up) at least, the later trannies will work and are in fact more desireable according to Terry Haines.

Black '98.0 GL V6/MTX, tints, SVT airbox (sans fender boot), stock muffler replaced with spiral racing muffler, A6 side markers, Cougar 16" polished wheels w/ bald 205/50/16 Yoko A520's, Mobil 1 5W30, Castrol SATF/Ford FM tranny cocktail, 9005 high-beam bulbs all around, re-aimed stock foglights
