The 500 I think will be MUCH bigger than the Passat. The Passat is roughly the same size as our cars. Around 185" long. Although they do seem ALOT bigger!

We are not letting go cause we want to drive a Ford built Taurus sized car that can compete with VW, etc. Ford can do it, too. Remember when the '89 SHO came out? smile It kicked the crap out of every other sedan offered at the time. Sure, as the years went on the SHO's performance wasn't to extraordinary cause everyone else kinda caught up, but just remember how it compared when it 1st came out. Damn, now I'm missing my SHO.

In March we got a Taurus wagon, we wanted some extra room because we like to camp. We had been considering an Escape or Explorer but the wife wanted a smooth car ride. The looks are ok and the features are nice, we got it loaded, but nothing really new high tech, nice zip with the 3.0 Duratec, but it handles like a barge. If only the Mondeo wagon were available here. frown

They should bring over the Mondeo and bring the diesel with it. It gets better mileage and has almost compariable performance. That's what Ford needs to replace the Taurus. Sure the Taurus was great when it came out, but it's old and needs to be taken out back and shot.

Something pretty close to the Mondeo is the upcoming Mazda6.....

3.0L Duratec 220hp with VVT....

We all know it will handle VERY well, heck, its a Mazda......double wishbown front suspension.... E-Type Multi Link in the rear...

Sure it doesnt have the power of an Altima, but it weighs a little less and will absolutely eat the Altima up in the twisties.... Throw on an intake, headers and exhaust and I dont see hitting at least 240HP out of the question......

Look for performance parts to be avaiable for the Mazda6 shortly after its release...courtesy of.....

I agree we need the Mondeo, but it needs to be called the Mondeo (Focus is called Focus in Europe). Mondeo would compete against different cars than the Taurus. The competitor would be the Passat and Altima.

The Focus is considered a "World Car" as was the Escort before it. The rest of the platforms are demographic specific. Christ, look at Chevy and how many brands that they have and how many actually different cars that they have. It is ridiculous. IMHO the major players should drop all of the hooplah and compete on an even field. No more Lincoln or Mercury... No more Pontiac. Look at Dodge and what they did to the Plymouth badge. Sell cars not cladding and different bumpers. Put some more money into developing cars that CAN compete with the Japanese cars in quality, economy, and HP/Litre output. Yeah, I agree that looks should be considered too. I want the new Pontiac GTO (ala Holden Monero from Down Under). It is a Rear drive Caterrra. Yippee. Hello LS-1!
