Hi guys i got the contour curse and spun a bearing a while ago so i have been looking for a motor. I found a 2.5 out of a 99 cougar with 40000 miles on it and i was wondering if it will all work. It comes complete with front drive belt accesorys like a/c compressor, p/s pump, ect. It also has the fly wheel becuase it was a 5 speed and so is mine. My question is can i use all of these parts becuase they have alot less miles on them. Also Will the exhaust manifolds off it fit to? Thanks alot and sorry for the long post

The engine should work fine. You might have to change out the lower intake manifold depending on what year car you have but everything else should work fine. 40K isn't really alot of miles. Just change out the waterpump and get a Dual Mode Crank Dampener. Terry Haines sells them.

If your old 'toasted' motor is an SVT the Cougar is the same as a 'stock' non SVT 2.5..... wink

Yea i just have a regular 96 contour se so it is not the Svt motor. Why would i have to change the lower intake? But will the alternator, compressor, p/s pump, and all other drive belt accesorys work fine? Thanks alot

The lower intake on the 99 might be a returnless style lower since later 99 cars changed to that. It's a different type of fuel delivery then the older cars. The other parts on the COugar engine should work fine since it's all the same anyway.

Along with the lower intake & injectors/fuel rail ,you will have to swap the whole engine harness re changes in knock sensor, oil press switch,02 sensors etc etc.....IF your new motor is returnless fuel (one fuel rail connection Vs 2)... ;)Ops almost forgot...the reverse light switch is part of the 'old style' rod change with 4 connections Vs 2 so will have to swap out all the engine harness..

All that scaring the guy when the simple answer is... :p

...If the Cougar engine is returnless. Just use your old injectors & fuel rail.
Make sure to get a new injector O-ring kit! Found here

Getting the larger LIM is a plus! Keep it... laugh

Sorry but the harness has to be changed and its easier to do it with both engines out, leave the original Cougar harness on and you will be in deep s**t...! facts are facts my man, not trying to scare anybody just imparting wisdom! wink

Listen to Terry, he just did exactly this for me, 99 cougar returnless atx into a 96 contour mtx.

Oh and if you decide this is more of a project than you can handle, Rockford isn't a bad drive at all. (In other words HMS has my recomendation)
