i was out with some girls once and one asked why i was driving a "pimped out Contour". i looked at her like she was crazy and said i bought it like this from the factory. then she saw it was an SVT and was like oh. that's my only story though, most people don't even know about SVT Contours.

contours are known for a few things: 1: no longer being made. 2: fleet car for rental places. 3: having a ****load of problems. here is why ford dropped the contour: they werent selling many to begin with, and they have SERIOUS ISSUES. they werent popular cars, people generally chose the taurus over the contour because the taurus is a well-known, dependable vehicle. ever changed out the wiring harness on a contour? i have. there is a ****ing recall for it. the plastic wire covering comes off, wires touch, the car turns into a ****ing gremlin-fest. they have cooling fan fuse recalls. bad water pumps. they like to spin rod bearings *esp. zetec VCTs*. ahhh yes, dont forget the blower fan resistor recall. this one is great. why? because the car SETS ITSELF ON FIRE. the contour is easily one of the worst cars ford produced, from the electrical standpoint. they can be a ****ing headache. and, with the harness recall, ford is losing a ****load of money. they give technicians 1.9 hours pay to do a 4 hour job. "what, don, you dont say?! 1.9 hours???" yeah, because ford ****ed up. i love my SVT contour. even the guys at work were impressed with how clean it is and how well it was built. the service record on this car shows one "under warranty" fix for a broken shifter. thats it. i did the recalls on it because, well, i can. dont take this as a flame, just take it as a serious standpoint. i enjoy my babydoll every damn day and wont change anytime soon.

I'm with Don on this. I used to own a GL (my bro has it now, so I still see it), and a week did not go by when I got a new recall in the mail. Some people have massive problems with their cars. I've had my share in the 3 and a half months I've had the SVT. But the GL has been to the shop for recalls and routine maintenance and that's it!
I'll enjoy my car no matter how many problems it has. It's truly unique and rare and is very fun to mod, and worth all the hassle.

like most with SVT's people dont have a clue what it is but say "ohhh its a contour....." kinda like oh- an econo box- but then you take them on a "spirited" drive and all they can do is say whoa- or damn - or man this is FAST!
I like it that way- not a lot of recognition but a lot of respect.

The best i ever got was "what series Beamer is that?!" I just laughed and told him it was an M2.5 and then filled him in about the SVT 'Tour. He was like "Damn, Ford made that?" I laughed again and explained that the people at Ford, THAT KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING (SVT) built it. Debadging these cars can fool a lot of people.

Yeah, I have a few dumb friends who have nice cars and have NO IDEA what the heck I drive. My best friend has a 1996 Camaro SS, another has a 1999 Camaro SS, and like I said, they have no clue what mine is. So when I go it, I simply told them it was the twin to the Jaguar X-Type, and the V6 was made by Porsche, and it cost $55000.00 (slight exageration...move the decimal over once and you got it right!) They know how it sounds, they know how it handles, and they know that they like it! I have RARELY heard negative comments from people in school...but the best story I have is when my mom and I were at Gateway Oldsmobile looking at a new Bravada for me, and we were still sitting in my car infront of the showroom, and this new Chrysler came up, and 2 women and a little girl came out. The little girl pointed at my car and said "Mommy mommy, I want that one!" I was so proud :p

If you lose a race, and don't make excuses, then no one will think it's a Civic. If you win races, then no one will think it's a Civic.

I don't know about you, but when people see my car they just shut up about those Contours are crap comments. Many people said, "I've never a Contour this nice before." And mine is easily one of the worst shaped Contours here with all those chips/scratches/rust/etc. I don't give a **** about their comments neither because all of them seem surprised after seeing my car run. I can't wait 'til I show them what's up after the 3 point oh my god!
