We raised the money needed to host the site for another year, so what happens from here? Is it just "taken care of" or will there be some downtime and changes made? It may have already been mentioned in one of the other 35 page e-mails on the future of the site.

When the phone company pulls the plug on the T1 at Matt's house, the server will be shipped back to Lance. Lance will do some upgrades (big one is replacing a failing hard drive), and send it to Andy. It'll be at least 3 weeks downtime, as that's how long it takes for the DSL to get installed at Andy's place. More than likely, we'll be back online in a month.

So other than replacing the failing hard drive, the server being at Andy's house and about a month of downtime, are there going to be other changes?

We are going to start using a new type of UBB (aka forum software) called UBB Threads. It's much nicer I think, and it does much better compression...helping to save bandwidth. There will probably be some changes on the forums; there will be a new user agreement that will be much more specific and easy to understand.
That's all I can think of for now.

=) Christy Will our user accounts carry over from UBB, or will we all have to reregister? Plus, do you have any links to current sites that use UBB Threads, so we (I) can preview what it'll look like? Thanks! EDIT: Never mind: I found some here

A version switch? :p ...Of all the forums I've seen I like this one's overall structure the best, colors, readability, all that jazz. But the 'threads' version looks pretty good from those screenshots. The change doesn't look to be too big and I'm sure there are some improvements underneath the skin too. So forward we go

from a site linked via the link above We just updated to version 6.0 of the forum software. It brings back many of the features we lost when switching to UBB.threads a few months ago. Bear with us as we work out the kinks and optimize everything hopefully it'll all work out...

It'll take some gettin' used to the new version, i'll miss stuff like newest member, but seems over all functionality is increased and the important thing is the compression.

Sounds good to me...I hung out with Chris Hightower today and he kinda told me the same thing. It's going to be a tough month.

In order to prevent something like this happening again what about monthly dues or donations?
